Voices of Hope – 2022 National PKU Alliance Fundraising Video
Since 2013, I have been producing fundraising videos for the National PKU Alliance, and I am proud to be a part of such a noble cause. The work has been both challenging and rewarding, and I am passionate about the mission of the organization.
My journey with the National PKU Alliance began with Tuxes for Tia, an event that took place in Washington, DC. I had the privilege of producing the video for the event, and it was a great success. The experience was so inspiring that I continued to work with the organization on the Lifting the Limits for PKU campaign, which began in 2015.
This campaign is a cause that is very close to my heart. I have seen firsthand the impact that PKU can have on individuals and families, and I am committed to raising awareness and funds for research that will lead to a cure. Over the years, I have traveled to many cities across the United States to produce videos for the organization.
In 2022, I had the honor of working on a new fundraising video for the National PKU Alliance. The project took about three months to complete, and it was a lot of work. However, it was also a lot of fun, and I had the opportunity to meet and interview some incredible people. Some of them were friends that I had known for years, and others were new acquaintances. It was a great experience to hear their stories and to share them with the world.
One of the highlights of the project was working with Scott Pelley from CBS News. He recorded the voiceover for the video, and he was a great supporter of the PKU community. It was an honor to work with him, and I am grateful for his contribution to the project.
Overall, my experience working with the National PKU Alliance has been remarkable. I am grateful for the opportunity to utilize my skills to make a significant difference in the world, and I look forward to continuing to work with the organization in the future. If you are interested in learning more about the National PKU Alliance or supporting their cause, I encourage you to visit their website and get involved. Together, we can make a difference and work towards a cure for PKU.
The National PKU Alliance is on a mission to cure, with passion to thrive.
2023 Update
This is a personal update to this article… A few weeks ago we learned that Voices of Hope won a Silver Telly Award!
That’s from the Telly Awards website. But perhaps you aren’t familiar with the Telly Awards. Advocacy is my passion and feels like a second career. But my “real” career is in the corporate and commercial video production industry. And in our industry the Telly Awards are the highest awards we can enter. It’s not a local competition. It’s not a national competition. It’s an international competition, the judges include the best in the industry, and previous winners include… well, virtually everyone you can think of in broadcasting.
So, thank you to the Telly Awards for recognizing this video with a Silver Telly!
The production company I work for is CRM Studios Louisiana, and we’ve entered the Telly Awards every year since I’ve been here over the last 8 years. And our team has won a total of 12 Telly Awards, including Bronze, Silver, and Gold Tellys. I am thankful to be part of such an amazing team of professionals. And also thankful that they support me in my advocacy work.
Thank you, CRM Studios, for your continued support, and for being such an amazing place to work.
The Most Important Thank You
But I must say thank you as well to the National PKU Alliance. I have partnered with this amazing organization since I entered the world of PKU, newborn screening, and rare disease advocacy in 2012.
Any time I produce a video and release it to the world – whether it’s screened at an in-person event, hosted on a website, posted to YouTube, or shared on social media – I hope it gets a wide audience, sure. But what I really hope is that it fulfills some greater purpose than just increasing view counts. I want to know that it serves a specific purpose and is making a difference.
In my early days of PKU advocacy I tried various media projects to see what fulfilled me and what seemed to make the most difference.
And by far the projects that mean the most to me are these fundraising films for the National PKU Alliance. I know that they are raising awareness of PKU. I know the stories resonate with the community. But most importantly, I know the films help raise funds for research and an eventual cure for PKU.
And I know and trust that the NPKUA is the right organization to receive those funds.
Thank you, NPKUA, for allowing me to tell these stories. For giving me the privilege to travel across the country and meet people in our community.
And, at the end of the day, I am not just a PKU advocate or a video production professional. I am an adult with PKU who needs support in this rare disease life. And I know that you have my back. I know that you support me.
Because you support ALL of us in the PKU community very, very well.
